Hey everyone! Hope everything is doing well. Just wanted to explain my disappearance since I haven't posted in ages :( I have been extremely busy with wedding planning and my new full time job as a ophthalmic photographer so I have not had a chance to post any new work or do much new work for that matter. Macular Dystrophy

Macular dystrophy is a rare genetic eye disorder that affects the central part of the retina. The macula is where we have our key central vision. So this is how we read, drive, etc. Those with macualr dystrophy have trouble doing these things becuase of this vision impairment.

This week at Wake Forest University Eye Center I was able to photograph a retina that had a nevus! Nevus is a medical term for freckle. This photo is acutually a montage of several differnt frames to allow the whole nevus to be seen. This particular patient had a nevus in the right eye by the optic nerve. Hope you enjoy!

Hey everyone! Sorry it's been so long since I've made a post. But no worries......I will be posting some portriats of my two beutiful neices soon along with some prom pictures that I took for Hannah Sheffield.

Here are some more fundus photos. I actually didn't take these! These two fundus photos are of both of my eyes that David Miller, my suprevisor at Wake Forest University Eye Center took! Hope you enjoy. They are a little dark around the edges because my eyes weren't dialated. The first one is of my right (OD) eye and the second is of the left (OS).

Optic Neuritis

Yesterday I was able to take more fundus photographs! I am progressing more and more everyday, so hopefully I will find the time to post some more fundus photos for you to see. This patient had optic neuritis which is swelling of the optic nerve. This can cause a sudden decrease in vision.

This photograph is one of a set of two. I was able to take it in stero which means that it has a 3D appearance when paired with the other image if you have a stero viewer. Since most of you don't have this at home I just posted the one image. Hope you are enjoying my fundus photographs. I only have a couple more weeks left of my internship at Wake Forest Eye Center.

Here is another fundus picture I was able to take yesterday. This patient was a suspect for gluacoma. If you saw my previous post of fundus photography you will notice how much the optic nerve was swollen in the last patient.

Today I got to practice more fundus photography! It has been challenging for me to get images of the retina (back of the eye) in focus, but I'm getting better. Practice makes perfect :) This patient had Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension which was causing his optic nerve to swell. More to come soon!

Optical Coherence Tomography Scan

For my internship at Wake Forest University Eye Center I have been doing Optical Coherence Tomography Scans (OCT). An OCT scans the back of the eye (retina) and measures the thickness of it. It also shows any type of swelling, fluid, or other abnormalities. The top scan is what a more normal eye looks like and the bottom scan shows a patient that has sub-retinal fluid. Large Format Interior and Exterior

For my large format class this past summer we were required to photograph an interior and an exterior. I would like to thank the Catholic Church of Candor and West Montgomery High school for allowing me to photograph their facilities. The hardest part of this assignment was printing the interior out in the darkroom, because of the window light.

The first eight weeks of this semester I have a Macro Photography class. Our first assignment was to experiment with some of the equipment that we have here at RCC and turn in 3-5 images. Here are 3 of the images that I have edited so far. For my first image I used natural light combined with on-camera flash. For the last two images I used a halo light to the right and a ring flash on camera. All three of these images are at a 1:1 Ratio.

Small Room Portrait

A requirement for my object portfolio was to have a photograph of metal in it. I decided to photograph a juicer. It was not the easiest experience I had, because the size of the objet that I chose I had to use 5 panels and 5 lights to try and reduce the specular highlights on the juicer.

Those of you that have been following my blog will probably recognize this subject. My teacher showed me some problems with my last pharmaceutical so I wanted to reshoot to make the image stronger. The main problem was the composition. After playing around with the composition for a while, this is final image I came up with.

For my last project in my digital imaging class we were required to make a creative montage. We were given five words that had to show in our final image. The words could be shown discretely or could be made very obvious. The type of person I was supposed to represent was a business professional. My theme was supposed to be allegory, and my three objects were window, farming equipment, coffee cup.

Peppermint Fun

For my object portfolio we were required to have an image with glass. I wanted to photograph something that kind of pertained to Christmas so I chose to photograph a bunch of different types of peppermints in a candy jar.

The hardest part about this was to light the peppermints that were actually in the candy jar. It was quite challenging to do this without messing up the lighting on the glass. Overall I think that the final image turned out quite well.

Chick-Fil-A Brownies

We had an assignment in our object lighting class to photograph chocolate with a studio strobes. I chose to shoot Chick-Fil-A brownies because I love the way they taste and they have icing on the top of them which makes them really pretty. For the setup I used a Farrell light slanted in the back and an additional speedotron light on the right side of the table to get more texture in the brownie.

Technoid Cell Phone

For this assignment we were required to photograph a cell phone against a reflective background. I chose to use silver foil wrapping paper for underneath the phone and as the background. I used 3 mini hot lights and a green and yellow gel. One of the minis lit the phone itself, one mini with the green gel behind the background, and the other mini with a yellow gel pointing up to light the bottom of the foil paper yellow. I really like the effect that the light on the foil paper gave. Here is what I came up with!

For this assignment we were required to shoot a fruit or vegetable. I chose peppers because the colors of them really caught my eye. For the lighting we were required to experiment with light writing. I used the broncolor light brush for the lighting and left the shutter open for four seconds at f/8. During this time you just shine the light on different parts of the image to your liking! I hope you love the colors as much as I do!

While in New York City for the PDN Photo Expo my digital class had an assignment to shoot a panoramic. I chose to do mine at Central Park. For this panoramic I combined 52 images together using Photomerge in Photoshop. It was a long process, but I really like the results. Let me know what you think.

For an assignment in my Photojournalism class we had to come up with an image that showed the stressful life of a busy college student.For the setup I had my beautiful model, Sussanah Held lay on the floor and got a couple of friends to hold up a big piece of black mat board for the background. In my Product Lighting Class in Summer semester 2009 we were given an assignment to shoot a pair of shoes in the studio. I used a Speedtron pack with a Ferrel light. The Ferrel light was slightly slanted to allow the light to go across the shoes more. I shot this image with a Mamiya 645 on Kodak 160VC C-41 film.

For my digital imaging class I had to take a self-portrait. I found this project rather challenging because I rarely ever like a picture of myself unless its me making a goofy face. I was surprised to actually like one of them, here is what I came up with.
