Vasculitis of the Eye

Vasculitis is an inflammation of your blood vessels. It is a disease that causes change in the walls of your blood vessels, including thickening, weakening, narrowing and scarring.

Hypertension

Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. Because of high blood pressure this patient got a hemorrhage in the right eye.

Macular Dystrophy

Macular dystrophy is a rare genetic eye disorder that affects the central part of the retina. The macula is where we have our key central vision. So this is how we read, drive, etc. Those with macualr dystrophy have trouble doing these things becuase of this vision impairment.

This is a photo of a patients left eye that has macular dystrophy.

Freckle of the Eye

This week at Wake Forest University Eye Center I was able to photograph a retina that had a nevus! Nevus is a medical term for freckle. This photo is acutually a montage of several differnt frames to allow the whole nevus to be seen. This particular patient had a nevus in the right eye by the optic nerve. Hope you enjoy!

It's Been to Long!

Hey everyone! Sorry it's been so long since I've made a post. But no worries......I will be posting some portriats of my two beutiful neices soon along with some prom pictures that I took for Hannah Sheffield.

Here are some more fundus photos. I actually didn't take these! These two fundus photos are of both of my eyes that David Miller, my suprevisor at Wake Forest University Eye Center took! Hope you enjoy. They are a little dark around the edges because my eyes weren't dialated. The first one is of my right (OD) eye and the second is of the left (OS).

Abstract Fundus

I decided to have a little bit of fun with some of the fundus photographs that I have been taken at Wake Forest University Eye Center. This is a result of two fundus images montaged together and played with in photoshop, ENJOY!

Optic Neuritis

Yesterday I was able to take more fundus photographs! I am progressing more and more everyday, so hopefully I will find the time to post some more fundus photos for you to see. This patient had optic neuritis which is swelling of the optic nerve. This can cause a sudden decrease in vision.

This photograph is one of a set of two. I was able to take it in stero which means that it has a 3D appearance when paired with the other image if you have a stero viewer. Since most of you don't have this at home I just posted the one image. Hope you are enjoying my fundus photographs. I only have a couple more weeks left of my internship at Wake Forest Eye Center.

More FUNDUS!!!

Here is another fundus picture I was able to take yesterday. This patient was a suspect for gluacoma. If you saw my previous post of fundus photography you will notice how much the optic nerve was swollen in the last patient.

Fundus Photography

Today I got to practice more fundus photography! It has been challenging for me to get images of the retina (back of the eye) in focus, but I'm getting better. Practice makes perfect :) This patient had Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension which was causing his optic nerve to swell. More to come soon!
